Sacre to start at two miles this Season

Sprinter SacreIt looks as though fans of the great Sprinter Sacre will have to wait until December for the outstanding chaser to have his first outing of the new campaign, the Grade 1 Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown appearing favourite to host the superstar on his seasonal bow.

Speaking at a recent open day at his famous Seven Barrows stables in Lambourn, trainer, Nicky Henderson, admitted that if Sprinter Sacre did come to hand quickly this season, he might be tempted to run him in the Schloer Chase at the big Cheltenham meeting in November but that in all likelihood it will be the Sandown race that will kickstart another campaign for the horse who is unbeaten in his last 10 starts.

A top-priced 2/5 chance with www.betfair.com to retain the Queen Mother Champion Chase title he won in such imperious fashion last March when slamming former champion, Sizing Europe, with barely believable ease, the gelded son of Network followed up by winning over two-and-a-half miles at the Aintree Festival a few weeks later, proving four-and-a-half lengths too good for the smart Cue Card in the Grade 1 John Smith’s Melling Chase.

That win prompted fevered speculation that Henderson might step up to three miles and have a crack at this year’s King George VI Chase at Kempton Park on Boxing Day, but it appears nothing could be further from the mind of the champion trainer, who believes that Sprinter Sacre has no need to go any further and that two miles might well be as far as he goes this season.

A little like the mighty Frankel on the Flat scene a few years ago, Sprinter Sacre stands head and shoulders above his contemporaries and will be a massive draw for racing fans wherever he goes.
